Description

Black Tiger Prawns Cultured In Vietnam

Black Tiger Prawns (Penaeus monodon, also known as giant tiger prawn or Asian tiger prawn) is a variety of prawn commonly caught or farmed for food. Black Tiger shrimp are regarded as a high-end, niche product in today’s seafood market. They are the most common farm‐based shrimp species cultured in Vietnam. Most tiger shrimp is farmed, though a significant amount is harvested from the wild by trawlers working mud bottoms from very shallow water to depths beyond 300 feet. The largest of 300 commercially available shrimp species worldwide, tigers can grow to 13 inches, but harvest size averages 9 to 11 inches.

The three provinces which contribute most to shrimp production are Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Can Tho (in the south of Vietnam).  Nowadays, Black tiger prawns in Vietnam are being raised with food that meets international standards. Tiger prawns have a naturally mild-sweet flavor and firm texture.
